If my lifestyle is characterised by the same habits and actions daily, then the results are predictable. If I want a different result, then I will have to start afresh and embrace a new approach.
I refer to Einstein again, who says “its utter madness to keep doing the same thing over and over and expect a different result. This is one of the most profound statements of all time. A different approach, a new way, this is Einstein’s’ philosophy. This brings me to the next phrase that I hear quite often “You need to think outside the box.”
Meeting special advisers and talking to them about my dreams and the challenges attached, they are quick to tell me to think outside the box. I’m forced to embrace new methods and discover that thinking outside the box means having a unique view.
It reminds me of reading a book by Robert Kiyosaki, Rich Dad, Poor Dad. He claims that a mortgage apartment pays for by the owner and not the tenant is a liability. Many are angry because of this statement, as far as it goes; Robert is saying have a different view, in other words think outside the box. It’s a general belief that mortgage properties are assets and not liabilities.
Money is a major tool in life, and we get more or lose more through assets and liabilities. Assets donate money into our pockets while liabilities drain the pocket. Kiyosaki says you may consider your house an asset, but the mortgage lender considers it a liability under your name. Some argue that it’s an asset because of the equity accrued over time, Kiyosaki responds that the equity is mostly spent on liabilities.
It’s clear that thinking outside the box will make one miserable, no wonder not many people like thinking outside the box. If you have the same view as everyone else, you’re rest assured to also get the same result. Research reveals that only one in a hundred people will be financially independent at the age 65. The main reason is because this person decides to think outside the box.
He knows that thinking outside the box will make him miserable in the first instance, but will also lead to a fulfilled life. I reflected on the past and think about many past decisions to see if there are necessary changes that I need to make. In all honesty, there are many and a willing heart is needed to make changes.
